In this painting, I sought to embody the grace of human connection, drawing on the rich heritage of classical art. Using oil, tempera, and gilding on plaster, I infused the work with a sense of timeless elegance. The figures are rendered in a realistic style, evoking the emotional depth of the bonds they share. Symbolic elements grace the composition, inviting viewers to delve into a narrative that whispers of love, care, and unity. This piece is a beacon of warmth and serene contemplation, meant to elevate any space with its radiant and harmonious energy.
John Afflick has incorporated the ancient game of snakes and ladders around a main central image. 'Caritas', the sixth instalment in his 'Virtues' series, is an adaptation of the William Adolphe Bouguereau masterpiece 'Charity' painted in 1878. The woman represents a universal charitable entity that feeds all humanity with a physical and spiritual sustenance.
